One day, a high school student was walking along the river bank near her school when she noticed a large amount of plastic rubbish. Bottles, bags, and other waste covered the ground along the river's edge. She felt shocked and sad to see the river in such a bad condition. She decided she could not just ignore it. The next week, she stood in front of her classmates at school and explained what she had seen. She showed them photos of the rubbish and asked them to join a clean-up campaign. Many of her classmates agreed to help. The following Saturday, a large group of students and local residents gathered at the river bank. Together, they picked up plastic waste and filled many large bin bags with rubbish. Everyone worked hard, and by the end of the day the river bank looked much cleaner. A few days later, a local TV news reporter came to interview the student beside the clean river. The student was surprised but very happy. She explained why she had started the campaign and said she hoped more people would start to care about the environment.
