One day, a woman was visiting her local library when she noticed a sign on the front door. The sign said that the library would close forever because the city did not have enough money. The woman was very shocked to read this news. She did not want the library to close, so the next day she went back and started collecting signatures outside the library. She held up a sign that said "Save Our Library!" and asked people passing by to sign her petition. A businessman signed it, and so did an elderly woman with a cane. Many people in the community wanted to help. Two weeks later, the woman went to a town hall meeting and gave the petition to a city official. More than twelve hundred people had signed it, and a large crowd stood behind her holding signs. One month later, the woman walked past the library and was surprised to see that it was open again. The building had been painted and looked much brighter than before. Through the windows, she could see children reading books with their parents. She was very happy that the library had been saved.
