One day, a man was eating lunch in his company's cafeteria when he noticed a large amount of food being thrown away. He watched as a staff member tipped a full tray of leftovers into a big rubbish bin. The bin was already overflowing with wasted food. The man thought this was a big problem and decided to do something about it. Two weeks later, he made a presentation to his manager. He explained his idea for a food-sharing programme that would send leftover food to local shelters instead of throwing it away. His manager looked interested and agreed to try the plan. One month later, the programme was running. The man and his colleagues packed boxes of food and loaded them into a van. The van had the words "Food Share" written on the side. The man stood outside holding a clipboard and making sure everything was organised. Six months later, the man was reading a newspaper at his desk. The article said that his company had won an award for its food-sharing work. He felt proud, but he also noticed that the paper said only five percent of companies had a similar programme. He sat with his hand on his chin, thinking about how many more companies needed to change.
質問と模範解答 | Questions & Model Answers
No. 1
Please look at the fourth picture. If you were the man, what would you be thinking?
Model Answer
I'd be thinking, "I'm glad our programme won an award, but it's not enough. If only five percent of companies are doing this, there is still a huge amount of food being wasted every day. I want to share our ideas with other companies and help them start similar programmes."
Now, Mr./Ms. ——, please turn over the card and put it down.
No. 2
Do you think companies have a responsibility to reduce food waste?
Model Answer
Yes, I think they do. Companies produce a lot of food waste, and this is bad for the environment. It also seems unfair when many people do not have enough to eat. If companies find ways to donate or reuse leftover food, they can help both the environment and people in need at the same time.
No. 3
Some people say that food waste is mainly a problem for individuals, not businesses. Do you agree?
Model Answer
No, I don't agree. While it is true that individuals waste food at home, businesses such as restaurants, supermarkets, and companies also throw away a very large amount of food every day. I think both individuals and businesses need to work together to solve this problem.
No. 4
Do you think the government should make laws to reduce food waste?
Model Answer
Yes, I think laws can help. Some countries already have rules that require supermarkets to donate unsold food instead of throwing it away. If the government made similar rules in Japan, more businesses would take action. However, I also think it is important to teach people about the problem so that they want to change on their own.
