One day, a man was walking through his neighborhood when he noticed an empty, overgrown lot. The land was full of weeds and rubbish, and an old fence with a "No Entry" sign surrounded it. The man thought it was a waste of good space. He talked to his neighbours and got permission from the city. Then a group of volunteers came to help clean it up. They pulled out weeds, dug the soil, and built garden beds. The man worked hard with a spade while the others helped around him. Several months later, the empty lot had become a beautiful community garden. Tomatoes, carrots, and sunflowers were growing in the beds. A sign on the fence said "City Garden." Families came to look after the plants and pick the vegetables together. The man was very happy. A few weeks later, however, he found a notice on the fence from the City Council. It said the land would be turned into a car park in four weeks. He stood in front of the sign with his mouth open, unable to believe what he was reading.
